Who is the tier 3 Universal Training Plan for?
Tier 3 is for athletes who want a well-thought-out, fresh, ever-changing training plan grounded in Working Triathlete training principles, but who do not need/want individual coaching or personalization.
Another perk of the Tier 3 membership is that you will be on the same training plan as other members. This allows you to discuss the plan with others (and ask questions about it on the Tier 3 Slack Channel), coordinate with teammates to perform each workout, etc.
How does the universal training plan work?
After you sign up, you will create/connect a free TrainingPeaks account to Working Triathlete. You will then receive a universal scalable training plan delivered to you monthly by a Working Triathlete coach. The plan is designed for athletes looking to optimize fitness with deliberate efficiency (i.e by training 8-10 hours per week). As your A-race approaches (you can pick two A-races each year), you will receive a six- to eight-week plan specific to your target race. Any modifications or in-depth discussions with a coach require a Tier 1 or Tier 2 membership.
In addition to the evolving training plan, you will enjoy access to resources that will help you perform well, stay injury free, and get the most out of your membership. This includes information on maximizing TrainingPeaks, how to establish and set intensity zones, and how to push workouts to your Garmin device or Zwift so that you can perform them with real-time instruction.
What is the programming? Is the plan periodized?
The plan is structured to build balanced, foundational fitness until 6-8 weeks before your target race. Foundational weeks will contain 3 rides, 3 swims, and 3-4 runs per week. As a Tier 3 member, you will receive the same foundational plan as other Tier 3 members each week, enabling you to discuss the plan with other athletes. There will be training blocks within the foundational period (strength, high-end fitness, cadence, discipline-specific emphasis, etc.) focused on developing all dimensions of your fitness. Think of foundational weeks as the “General Preparation” component of a periodized training model. As race-day approaches, you will receive a plan specific to your race distance (sprint through 70.3 distance).
